Chairman-Elect Kwane Brown To Talk D.C. Neighborhood Business Issues at Public Hearing

On Friday, November 19, 2010 at 11:00 a.m., the Committee on Economic Development chaired by Chairman-elect Kwame R. Brown will hold a public hearing in Room 412 of the John A. Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Ave., NW.

The follow legislation will be the subjects of the hearing:

  • B18-98, the "Small Business Loan Authority Act of 2009", which would authorize the District to loan and invest in the Neighborhood Economic Development Corporation (NEDCO).
  • B18-553, the "DC Competitiveness Act of 2009", would mandate that funds received from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, (ARRA) shall be utilized for technology-based economic development (TBED) projects that will create a 21st Century workforce and economy in the District of Columbia.
  • B18-0697, the "Adams Morgan Main Street Group Clarification Act of 2010", would clarify that the Adams Morgan Main Street Group be entitled to an already budgeted $100,000 grant from the Commercial Revitalization Program within the Department of Small and Local Business Development and allocated to Adams Morgan under the Act regardless of their classification as a Main Street program.
  • B18-1046, the "Washington Convention and Sports Authority Amendment Act of 2010", would amend the Washington Convention Center Authority Act of 1994 to change the title of the chief officer of the Authority to President and Chief Executive Officer, and to provide for similar conforming changes.
  • B18-1047, the "Alternative Equity Payment Allocation amendment Act of 2010", would amend, on an emergency basis, the Small, Local, and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Development and Assistance Act of 2005 to direct fees paid by developers in lieu of meeting the 20% equity participation requirement for development projects to the Micro Loan Fund.
  • B18-1075, the "Southwest Waterfront Redevelopment Clarification Act of 2010", would clarify the affordable housing requirements applicable to the Southwest Waterfront redevelopment project.
