From Tiffany Watson: On Friday, July 13, the Committee on Public Services and Consumer Affairs, chaired by Councilmember Yvette M. Alexander, will hold a public oversight roundtable on PEPCO’s reliability and restoration efforts following the June 29, 2012 derecho storm. The public roundtable will be held at 1 p.m. in Hearing Room 500 of the John A. Wilson Building.

More than 443,000 PEPCO customers lost power, 66,000 of which were in the District. Many residents experienced a power outage for five or more days. The Committee's roundtable will serve as an opportunity for the Council to ask questions and to offer the public an opportunity to submit testimony.

“It is vital that we hold PEPCO accountable for the service that it provides to District residents,” said Councilmember Alexander. “We need answers as to why this power outage lasted so long and how restoration efforts can be expedited in the future.”

Those who wish to testify should contact Ms. Rayna Smith, Legislative Counsel, at (202) 741-2111 or via e-mail at rsmith@dccouncil.us, and provide their name, address, telephone number, organizational affiliation and title (if any) by close of business Thursday, July 12, 2012.  Persons wishing to testify are encouraged, but not required, to submit 15 copies of written testimony.  If submitted by the close of business on Thursday, July 12, the testimony will be distributed to Councilmembers before the hearing.  Witnesses should limit their testimony to four minutes; less time will be allowed if there are a large number of witnesses.

If one is unable to testify at the hearing, written statements are encouraged and will be made a part of the official record.  Copies of written statements should be submitted either to Ms. Rayna Smith, or to Ms. Nyasha Smith, Secretary to the Council, Room 5 of the Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W. Washington, D.C. 20004.  The record will close at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, July 27, 2012.
