DC Council Chairman Kwame R. Brown has issued the following statement regarding today’s groundbreaking ceremonies for the National Museum of African American History and Culture:

“Today’s groundbreaking event for the National Museum for African American History and Culture was extraordinary and inspiring. I want to thank all of the individuals who had a role in bringing this dream to fruition. This new memorial to the survival and contributions of hardworking, ingenious, and patriotic Americans of African descent is long overdue. It is a tremendous tribute to the sacrifices and aspirations of our ancestors, who paved the way for our success, and will stand as a testament to the enduring spirit of the American people for generations to come.”
