This story comes to us from Andrew Neilly:

Washington DC -- May 17, 2011  -- Camden Property Trust breaks ground Tuesday, May 17th at 11:00AM on its first DC development project.  Camden South Capitol, as the 276-unit community will be known, is also the first residential project to rise in the area for more than four years.

The groundbreaking ceremony, which takes place at South Capitol St. just north of O Street, will start at 11:00AM.  In attendance will be members of the development team, local dignitaries and representatives of the Washington Nationals.

Situated at 1345 South Capitol St, just a slugger’s swing from home plate at Washington National’s Stadium and a short walk from Navy Yards metro station, Camden South Capitol will offer high finish, upscale residences when the project opens in Summer 2013.  The community will feature a rooftop pool and deck, three levels of secured, underground parking and an internal courtyard with BBQ pits and other leisure amenities.  Individual residences will average 832 square feet and offer a mix of studio, one and two bedroom units.  All will have upgraded interiors and finishes, balconies and floor to ceiling windows, some units offering stellar views of the Capitol and the Anacostia River.

Camden currently owns and operates sixteen apartment communities in the DC metro area and as of January 1, 2011, the company owned and operated 47,600 apartments nationally.
