Jessica McKay contibuted to this report: Yesterday, Wednesday, April 11, three of the renowned Washington Nationals Racing Presidents (Thomas Jefferson, Teddy Roosevelt, and George Washington) celebrated opening day at Nationals Park with residents and their guests at Greenspring retirement community in Springfield, Va..  The Presidents took photos with residents and their guests; some lucky guests even won four opening day tickets.

This is finally Opening Week for Major League Baseball, a time that naturally prompts some people to ask the age old question, “Why can’t I get a free cupcake for liking a sport that lasts more than half of the calendar year?”

Well, for those people, say no more.  It’s time for you to reap the benefits of your allegiance.

To celebrate the start of the 2012 MLB campaign in D.C. and Baltimore, Sprinkles Cupcakes in Georgetown, located at 3015 M Street, will give a free extra cupcake to each customer who wears some form of Baltimore Orioles apparel today, April 6(Baltimore’s home opener) and a free extra cupcake to each customer who wears some form of Nationals apparel on April 12(the Nats home opener).

Stephen Strasburg Named Nationals' Opening Day Starter

Washington Nationals Manager Davey Johnson has announced that Stephen Strasburg will be the starter for the Nats on Opening Day.

Opening Day for the Nationals is April 5th in Chicago against the Cubs.

Johnson also announced that newly acquired left-handed pitcher Gio Gonzalez will start Game 2 in Chicago for Washington.
