Over 1,000 community members attend DC SCORES Fall Frenzy

The athletic fields of Kelly Miller Middle School were flooded with people of all ages Saturday, Oct. 22, as DC SCORES hosted the 14th annual Fall Frenzy.

Over 1,000 students, parents, community members and volunteers attended the event, which celebrates the fall season of DC SCORES, the largest after-school program in the District.

The program’s 800-plus “poet-athletes” representing 27 elementary and middle schools in the District engaged in intra-city soccer games and enjoyed a variety of activity booths, including: facepainting, relay races, Haiku writing and a Starbucks arts & crafts table (minus the hot chocolate).

Past program participants came out in large numbers to referee the games, serve lunch and help out in any way possible, and hundreds of parents were on hand to cheer on their children.
