From Monica Hernandez: The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) and the 11th Street Bridge Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Project Management Team, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Transportation Short Term Lending Program and the Surety & Fidelity Association of America, are hosting a finance and bonding workshop for small and disadvantaged businesses on Thursday, January 19 . 

DDOT To Implement Reserved Parking Meters For Persons With Disabilities

 

From Monica Hernandez: The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced it will implement a new program designed to improve access for persons with disabilities to businesses and services in the commercial areas of the District.  Starting later this month the District will provide reserved metered parking spaces for persons with disabilities at distinctive “red top” meters.  This new program sets aside curbside parking spaces for the exclusive use by persons with disabilities and eliminates the free parking in metered spaces that has become a prime incentive behind the fraudulent use of disabled parking placards and license plates.

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is scheduled to close the northbound and southbound lanes of 11th Street, SE between M Street and K Street, as well as half a block of L Street, SE, on December 28 and 29.  The lane closures will allow the Contractor to install bridge girders over 11th Street for a new freeway bridge.

 

Gray Celebrates Completion of New 11th Street Freeway Bridges Over Anacostia River

 

From Robert Marus: Mayor Vincent C. Gray, D.C. Councilmembers, District Department of Transportation (DDOT) Director Terry Bellamy, representatives from the Federal Highway Administration and community leaders held a ribbon-cutting ceremony today to celebrate the completion of the new 11th Street Freeway Bridges over the Anacostia River. The two new freeway bridges will provide a seamless connection between the Southeast/Southwest Freeway and the Anacostia Freeway (I-295/DC 295).

From John Lisle: This weekend the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will be conducting a series of closures along northbound I-295 to prepare to switch traffic from the existing 11th Street inbound bridge to the new inbound freeway bridge.

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced plans are in place to begin the Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue Safety Improvement Project on or about December 5, weather permitting.  This $1.4 million project is locally funded and will be constructed by a Ward 8 minority-owned firm, F&L Construction.
