The District Department of Transportation (DDOT), the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) and ANC Commissioner David Garber (6D07) joined forces this week to launch a Rack Attack, installing new bicycle racks in the Near Southeast Neighborhood near the baseball stadium.

District DMV to Increase Fees on Select Transactions

Effective October 1, 2011, the District Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will increase fees on select Driver’s License and Vehicle Registration services. The cost to obtain a Residential Parking Permit (RPP) will have two fee categories. For a senior, defined as over the age of 65, who is the primary vehicle owner, the RPP will increase to $25. For all other registered drivers, the RPP fee will increase to $35.

Metro To Adjust Select Bus Routes in DC, Virginia

Metro will make several adjustments to bus service, effective September 25, on routes in the District of Columbia and Northern Virginia.  The changes are intended to enhance reliability, improve connections with Metrorail service and match ridership demand.  

District of Columbia Service Changes

•Metro will introduce a new route, number 74, between Gallery Place/Convention Center and the Southwest Waterfront.  The new service, which replaces the southern portion of routes 70 and 71, will operate daily between 5 a.m. and 1 a.m., with service running every 18 minutes during weekday peak periods and every 24 minutes at other times.  More information

(Washington, D.C.) Capital Bikeshare celebrates its one-year anniversary on September 20, punctuating a tremendously successful debut. Since its launch in 2010, the bikesharing system has attracted over 17,000 members, logged nearly one million trips and amassed a total of 116 stations and 1,100 bicycles in the District and Arlington, VA, with more than 60 additional stations on the way.

Overnight Closures of Anacostia Freeway (295) for 11th Street Bridge Project

The District of Columbia Department of Transportation will close one direction of the Anacostia Freeway (I-295/DC 295) between Pennsylvania Avenue and the 11th Street Bridge on consecutive nights next week to demolition an existing bridge over the freeway. Northbound 295 will be closed overnight on September 7 and southbound 295 will be closed overnight on September 8, weather permitting.
