Hearing postponed for DC cop accused of pimping children

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- The hearing for a D.C. police officer accused of pimping out a 16-year old runaway girl from his apartment has been postponed.

Officer Linwood Barnhill Jr. was scheduled to make his first court appearance Friday for two counts of Pandering of a Minor.

His hearing has been postponed to Dec. 18.

The 24-year-veteran was recently found with a reported missing 16-year-old runaway in his apartment in Southeast.

One of his alleged victims says he was prostituting as many as a half dozen young women.

WUSA9's Bruce Leshan is at the courthouse. He'll have more information on the case this evening.

Judge orders DC cop held for child pandering

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A judge has just ordered a DC cop held without bond.

Investigators arrested Officer Linwood Barnhill Jr. and he's now charged with pandering two minors. The judge ordered the officer moved to the treatment side of the jail.

Officer Barnhill has been on the force for decades. And it looked like he was wearing his police utility pants as the marshals led this huge guy into the courtroom in handcuffs and leg irons.

On a MySpace page photo you can see Officer Barnhill has his arms around two girls. But one of his alleged victims says he was prostituting as many as a half dozen young women.

Police were looking for a 16-year-old runaway last week and they say they found her in the cop's apartment on Stanton Road in Southeast, where neighbors are furious that police had finally just arrested him.

Wanda Johnson says, "It's disgusting. You're supposed to look up to police officers."

Officer's death raises new questions

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA9) -- Just one day after the apparent suicide of a DC cop who was charged with child pornography, some new questions are emerging about the electronic monitoring system that was supposed to ensure he never left his home.

The body of 32 year-old Marc Washington was pulled from the water near Hains Point in Southwest last night.

If he was indeed wearing a monitoring device, why did no one realize the officer had left his home in Waldorf, Maryland and headed to the District to commit suicide?

You may be surprised to learn that it is very rare for a defendant to be monitored around the clock. On any given day in DC, there are 375 defendants awaiting trial and equipped with GPS monitoring devices. Most are only being closely tracked during business hours.

DC police officer charged with pandering

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A D.C. police officer has been arrested on pandering charges after allegations that he was pimping out a 16-year old runaway girl from his apartment.

Officer Linwood Barnhill Jr. was arrested by members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force and charged with two counts of Pandering of a Minor.

The 24-year-veteran was recently found with a reported missing teenage girl in his apartment. The girl said she had met other women there as well, according to court documents.

Police say the officer, who joined the department in 1989, has not been on full duty since September 2012. He has been placed on Administrative Leave.
